Eliud Ortiz
Housing & Financial Counselor –
Montgomery County Home Sharing Program
Eliud Ortiz is a certified housing and financial counselor for Housing Initiative Partnership. He works directly with HIP’s Montgomery County Home Sharing Program, managing the intake process and advising both homeowners and renters about their options for identifying a compatible housemate and providing financial counseling and coaching as a way to reduce their housing expenses and live more comfortably through shared living arrangements.
The Montgomery County Home Sharing Program was launched in January 2021 – it is a free matching service, supported by the county’s Department of Health & Human Services. Homeowners offer spare rooms and basement apartments in their home for rent to home seekers searching for affordable, healthy and safe housing. Home sharing can reduce social isolation, create monthly income for retired and low-income homeowners, and offer new and more affordable housing options for renters in an expensive housing market. HIP’s team provides background checks, advice and coaching throughout the matching process to help clients improve their quality of life while also reaching their housing and financial goals.
Eliud joined HIP in the fall of 2021 as a certified Financial Counselor for the Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) in Gaithersburg, Maryland, which is a partnership between HIP, the City of Gaithersburg, and Cities for Financial Empowerment that opened in March 2022.
Prior to joining HIP, Eliud spent more than 10 years gaining accounting and financial management experience in the banking and insurance industries. He earned his bachelor’s degree in global business and public policy, and a master’s degree in accounting and financial management from the University of Maryland Global Campus. He is fluent in English and Spanish.
Eliud can be reached in the Germantown office at 301-509-2238 or by email.
